Track continuing education credits in Obsidian

CE Credit Tracker keeps your license renewal cycle inside your vault. Log each CE, CPE, CLE or PDH credit as an ordinary note, then see hours earned, hours left and days left on one dashboard. Built for CPAs, nurses, attorneys, engineers, teachers and pharmacists who renew on a credit cycle.

Listing in progress

Free to install now, by hand. The plugin is not in Obsidian's community list yet, so it comes as a download that takes about two minutes to set up. Version 0.1.0, MIT licence. Needs Obsidian 1.7.2 or later and has not been tried on a phone yet.

Download the free plugin Install steps

$29 for one year of Pro. One payment, no auto-renewal; buy again to renew.

Tax is added at checkout by Stripe Tax. The free plugin keeps working without Pro. See what Pro adds.

Illustration with example numbers, not a screenshot. It is the plugin's dashboard drawn in HTML, using the plugin's built-in made-up example (40 hours in 2 years). No board's rules are used.

Install it by hand

Obsidian's community list is the usual route and a listing is in progress. Until it arrives, this is the same plugin as a download. The free plugin makes no network requests.

  1. Download and unziphexloom-ce-tracker-0.1.0.zip (28 KB). It holds one folder, hexloom-ce-tracker, with main.js, manifest.json and styles.css, plus the licence and the TypeScript source.
  2. Put the folder in your vaultCopy hexloom-ce-tracker into .obsidian/plugins/ inside your vault. .obsidian is a hidden folder, so turn on "show hidden files" in your file manager if you cannot see it.
  3. Switch it onIn Obsidian, open Settings, Community plugins. If community plugins are off, turn them on. Press the reload button next to Installed plugins, then switch on CE Credit Tracker.
  4. Log your first creditOpen the command palette and run Log a credit, then Open dashboard. Set your requirement in Settings, CE Credit Tracker.

SHA-256 of the zip: 5da1c84c5ebac970e3e25e16f612d2a08b57c3e6202204b35120f37f88b07de4. Check it with certutil -hashfile hexloom-ce-tracker-0.1.0.zip SHA256 on Windows or shasum -a 256 hexloom-ce-tracker-0.1.0.zip on Mac and Linux.

It needs Obsidian 1.7.2 or later. Its 33 automated tests run against a mock of Obsidian's plugin API, not the Obsidian app itself, so if something does not work for you, write to support. When the plugin is listed you can install it from the community list instead; the folder name is the same. Your requirement and Pro key are saved in data.json inside that folder.

What it does

You enter your own numbers. The plugin does the arithmetic and keeps everything in your vault.

  1. Enter your requirementThe hours you must earn, the first and last day of your cycle, and optional category minimums or maximums, such as an ethics minimum. The free plugin tracks one requirement.
  2. Log credits as notesRun Log a credit, or add the credit properties to a note you already have. A note counts wherever it lives in your vault.
  3. Read the dashboardHours earned, hours left, days left, your status, and any category minimum you have not met yet. A note with a bad value is listed with the reason, so nothing is dropped silently.
  4. Export an auditOne command writes a CSV or Markdown file with every counted credit, your totals and your category status.

How credits are logged

A credit is a note with a few properties. Use the Log a credit command, or add them to any note.

PropertyRequiredExample
ce-dateYes2026-03-05
ce-hoursYes1.5
ce-categoryNoEthics
ce-providerNoExample Training Co.
ce-certificateNo[[certificate.pdf]] or a link
---
ce-date: 2026-03-05
ce-hours: 1.5
ce-category: Ethics
ce-provider: Example Training Co.
ce-certificate: "[[certificate.pdf]]"
---

An example credit note, shown as the properties at the top of the file.

A note counts when it has ce-date and ce-hours. Credits dated outside your cycle are not counted. A note with a bad value, for example ce-hours: lots, is listed on the dashboard with the reason.

Free and Pro

The free plugin is complete for one requirement. It needs no key and has no time limit. Pro adds three things.

Free

$0, no key

  • One requirement
  • Full credit tracking and the dashboard
  • CSV and Markdown export, without the certificate column

Pro

$29 for one year. Everything in free, plus:

  • More than one requirement. Track several people or several licenses, each with its own cycle.
  • Certificate attachments in exports. Audit exports list the certificate attached to each credit.
  • Deadline reminders as note properties. A status note for each requirement with ce-days-left, ce-hours-left, ce-status and ce-deadline, for Bases, Dataview and reminder plugins to read.

What it does not do

Read this before you rely on a total.

  • It has no rules database. It does not know what any licensing board requires.
  • It makes no claim about any board's requirements. You enter your own numbers. The built-in example is made up, so replace every number with the one your board gives you.
  • Hours are self-reported. The plugin counts what your notes say. It does not check that a course is accepted by your board.
  • Check your own board. Your board's rules, not this plugin, decide what counts toward your renewal.

Privacy

Your credits are your records. They stay in your vault.

  • The free core makes no network requests. No account, no telemetry, no ads.
  • Your credits stay in your notes. Your requirement settings are stored in the plugin's data.json inside your vault.
  • The Pro key is checked offline. Nothing is sent from the plugin when it checks.
  • Buying happens in your browser, on hexloomlabs.com and Stripe, outside the plugin. This website uses Cloudflare's page-load analytics; the plugin does not. More in the privacy policy.

Questions

Do I need Pro?

No. The free plugin tracks one requirement with the full dashboard and exports to CSV and Markdown. Pro helps if you track more than one cycle, want certificates listed in your exports, or want deadline properties on a note.

Why is it not in Obsidian's community list yet?

We are submitting it. Obsidian reviews every plugin before it lists it, and we cannot say when that finishes. The download on this page is the same plugin, so you lose nothing by starting now.

Does it work on mobile?

The plugin is not marked desktop-only, so Obsidian is allowed to load it on mobile. We have not tested it on a phone, so we cannot tell you how the dashboard looks or behaves there.

How do I renew?

Buy Pro again from this page and paste the new key into the plugin's settings. Pro is a one-year payment with no auto-renewal, so nothing renews unless you choose to. Each year starts the day you pay.

What happens when Pro expires?

The free features keep working. The Pro features pause until you add a new key. Your notes and credits are ordinary notes in your vault and are not changed.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The plugin reads notes in your vault and writes exports back into your vault. The free core makes no network requests, and the Pro key is checked offline.

Refunds and problems

Payments are non-refundable except where the law requires one (see the terms), so try the free plugin first: Pro is the same plugin with a key. Questions or problems, including questions about an order: use the support page and include the email you paid with.

Buy Pro for one year

Pro is a key you paste into the plugin's settings. It unlocks the three Pro features offline.
