Which of your Canadian products carry the 50% Section 338 tariff on US orders?
A Shopify app that checks each product's HS code against the annex lines of the three 2026-07-20 proclamations. It shows the duty rate, its source and the date checked, plus what to reprice or add at checkout.
In Shopify's review. Hexloom Tariff Check Canada is not on the Shopify App Store yet, so there is nothing to install today.
Section 338 applies at 50% to the lines listed in the annexes, not to every Canadian product. Source: Proclamations 11046, 11047 and 11048 (91 FR 46639, 46653 and 46663), as of 2026-10-12. Those proclamations list no CUSMA exemption.
How it works
- Install the app and open it from Apps in your Shopify admin. It reads each product's title, SKU, variant title, HS code and country of origin. It is read-only: it never reads orders or customers.
- It matches each HS code to the annex lines. The US code is used first. The code is matched against the Section 338 annex lines (goods made in Canada), and the country of origin sets the Section 301 note.
- You get a result for each product checked, up to your plan limit. Read the rate, the source, the as-of date and a plain next step. Products with no HS code are counted and filterable so you can fill them in. You can also look up any HS code on its own.
What each result shows
- Duty rate
- The Section 338 rate for the line the product matches, shown as
50% duty
(Proclamations 11046, 11047 and 11048, as of 2026-10-12). - Source
- The matched line, with a link to the proclamation or Federal Register document it comes from.
- As-of date
- The date the table was checked. Every match shows it.
- Next step
- Plain advice: reprice, add the duty at checkout, or ask a customs broker.
A product with no HS code shows as No HS code
, with advice to add one. A product that matches no line shows as not found, never cleared. The app also lists import-banned products (Proclamations 11061, 11062 and 11063, published 2026-09-14; the bans apply to goods imported on or after 2026-09-29). Every result carries a Not legal or customs advice
notice, and a panel called The rules behind the results lists the rules and their sources.

What it does not do
- It is not legal or customs advice. Ask a customs broker before you rely on a result.
- It does not file customs entries or classify your products. It reads the HS code you have set on each product.
- It covers only the lines it lists. A product that matches no line shows as not found, never cleared.
- It checks only the first 10 variants of each product. The app shows a notice when some of your products have more.
- It does not check Section 232 duties. For alcohol and the general list, the 50% duty applies on top of them from 2026-09-15 (Proclamations 11064 and 11065). For dairy (Proclamation 11047), the 50% duty does not apply to articles under Section 232. Check that before you reprice.
- It does not calculate the duty on your orders. It shows the rate for the matched line, with its source.
- Rates change. Each result carries its source and as-of date, so you can see how old it is. Check the source before you act.
- It is AI-generated. The app and this page are AI-generated, and the tables were transcribed from the public annexes with AI assistance. A line may be missed or misread.
Sources
The tables are built from primary documents. These are the main ones, as of 2026-10-12. Each entry gives the FR Doc number, the Federal Register date and, where listed, the 91 FR page. Trade advisories from other publishers were used only to cross-check status and line counts. Each document number links to its Federal Register page.
