Hexloom Chat Archive by Hexloom Labs

Export Gemini chats to Markdown

Hexloom Chat Archive reads the Gemini conversation open at gemini.google.com and saves it as Markdown or JSON, with Obsidian-ready frontmatter. The file is built in your browser; nothing is sent to us.

Chrome and Edge 137 or later. A Firefox version is in review. Works on gemini.google.com, plus the other two assistants. Not affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic or Google; written with AI assistance.

How to export a Gemini chat

  1. Install the extension and open the Gemini conversation you want to keep.
  2. Click the Chat Archive icon and choose Markdown or JSON.
  3. Open the saved file. It has the title and date in YAML frontmatter, each message under a role heading, and code blocks kept as fenced code. Drop it in an Obsidian vault or any notes folder.

What Gemini already gives you

Gemini has no one-click Markdown export. Google Takeout can include your Gemini Apps activity, but as an activity archive rather than notes you can open in Obsidian. For a single conversation as a Markdown file, an extension is the shorter route.

Menu names reflect the services at the time of writing and may change.

Free and Pro

Free: export the open chat as Markdown or JSON, one at a time, on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.

Pro ($29 a year or $4 a month): Bulk archive of your Gemini history into a folder you pick, and local search across saved chats. Bulk archive opens your chats one by one in your own session, so it may go against Google's terms; use it at your own risk.

Privacy

The extension has no analytics and no server. Saved chats live in your browser's own storage and in the folder you choose. Your Pro licence key is checked offline. See the privacy policy.

Questions

Is it free to export Gemini chats?

Yes. Exporting the open chat as Markdown or JSON is free with no daily cap. Pro ($29 a year or $4 a month) adds the archive features listed above.

Does my conversation get uploaded?

No. The extension reads the page you have open and writes the file in your browser. It makes no network requests of its own, which you can confirm in your browser's network tab.

Does it work with images, files or PDF?

No. Images are linked rather than embedded, attachments are not saved, and there is no PDF or Word output.

Is it tested on a logged-in account?

It was tested against recorded page layouts of Gemini, not yet against many live accounts. If Gemini changes its page, export can break until we ship a fix. Pro has a 14-day refund by email.
