Export Claude chats to Markdown
Hexloom Chat Archive reads the Claude conversation open on claude.ai and saves it as Markdown or JSON, with YAML frontmatter that Obsidian understands. The file is built in your browser; nothing is sent to us.

How to export a Claude chat
- Install the extension and open the Claude conversation you want to keep.
- Click the Chat Archive icon and choose Markdown or JSON.
- Open the saved file. It has the title and date in YAML frontmatter, each message under a role heading, and code blocks kept as fenced code. Drop it in an Obsidian vault or any notes folder.
What Claude already gives you
Claude has its own export under Settings, Privacy, Export data. Anthropic emails a link to a download of your account data. It covers everything at once and is not formatted as Markdown notes. For one conversation as a note, an extension is faster.

Free and Pro
Free: export the open chat as Markdown or JSON, one at a time, on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
Pro ($29 a year or $4 a month): Auto-save of Markdown files into a folder you pick, and local search across saved chats. Bulk archive is switched off on claude.ai, so on Claude you export one chat at a time.
Privacy
The extension has no analytics and no server. Saved chats live in your browser's own storage and in the folder you choose. Your Pro licence key is checked offline. See the privacy policy.
Questions
Is it free to export Claude chats?
Yes. Exporting the open chat as Markdown or JSON is free with no daily cap. Pro ($29 a year or $4 a month) adds the archive features listed above.
Does my conversation get uploaded?
No. The extension reads the page you have open and writes the file in your browser. It makes no network requests of its own, which you can confirm in your browser's network tab.
Does it work with images, files or PDF?
No. Images are linked rather than embedded, attachments are not saved, and there is no PDF or Word output.
Is it tested on a logged-in account?
It was tested against recorded page layouts of Claude, not yet against many live accounts. If Claude changes its page, export can break until we ship a fix. Pro has a 14-day refund by email.
